Presbyterian Agriculture Services
The Presbyterian Agricultural Services (PAS) has for more than 50years, worked in the northern regions of Ghana to support smallholder farmer livelihood enhancement. Over this period its strategy has evolved from focusing on improving the productivity of farmers through agricultural advisory /extension support, to facilitating access to markets for their produce.
This value chain approach’ has been realized through the establishment of partnerships with local and international institutions both for funding and implementation of its programmes. The Presbyterian church of Ghana which was established in 1828 has contributed immensely to the socio-economic development of Ghana. Its intention to be more relevant in sustaining the social and environmental wellbeing of its clients, and responding to the felt needs of communities led to the formation of the Presbyterian Agriculture Services (PAS) under the department of Development and Social Services of the church in the early seventies to complement Government of Ghana efforts towards poverty reduction in rural and peri-urban communities of the country.
PAS head office is located in Tamale the capital of the northern region of Ghana and has six (6) agricultural service stations in the Northern, North East, Upper East, Eastern and Greater Accra region.
PAS is engaged in the fields of Agricultural Development, Value chain development, Water and Sanitation, environment and Climate Change, Market Access (crops and shea) for farmer-based organizations (FBOs) and women shea cooperatives for sheakernels and sheabutter. Through these Interventions, PAS operates with rural communities to improve their livelihoods security, food, income and nutrition security, health and safety and poverty reduction in northern Ghana.
